At a recent session of the 2025 JKMRC Friday Seminar Series, Plotlogic’s Head of Product and Technical Mining, Felice Quach, explored one of the biggest challenges in mining today: timely access to material data.
Extraction relies heavily on understanding the chemistry and mineral composition of ore in real time. Yet in most operations, there remains a critical delay between when material is mined and when meaningful data becomes available. Current workflows often involve laboratory-based assays that can take days to return, leaving operators to make decisions without the clarity they need in the moment.
In his presentation, Felice outlined how emerging mine imaging technologies, particularly Plotlogic’s OreSense® system, are beginning to close this gap. By delivering in-situ chemical and mineral measurements in under 15 minutes, these technologies make it possible to shift away from legacy methods and unlock precision workflows that were previously unachievable.
He also highlighted how significant improvements in scan speed and sampling density are opening new possibilities across a wide range of disciplines, including geology, geometallurgy, geotechnical engineering, and process optimisation. The ability to rapidly collect high-resolution material data at scale supports better operational decisions, tighter control over ore quality, and reduced exposure to variability and risk.
Drawing on more than a decade of experience in frontline mining engineering, Felice also shared insights into how the industry is adapting to these advancements and what it means for the future of mining operations.
Plotlogic’s participation in the JKMRC Friday Seminar Series is part of its ongoing commitment to technical collaboration and applied innovation across the mining sector.
